Unstoppable Faith: Walking in God's Power

But Peter put them all outside, and knelt down and prayed; and turning to the body he said, “Tabitha, arise.” And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter she sat up. - Acts 9:40

Sometimes we feel stuck in our comfort zones, ministering to the same people in the same places while God has bigger plans for our lives. Peter discovered this truth as he traveled beyond Jerusalem's familiar walls to villages where God was preparing hearts for transformation. When we allow God to expand our faith, He uses us to bring life to places we never imagined reaching.

In Acts 9:32–43, we witness Peter's ministry expanding beyond his comfort zone as he travels to Lydda and Joppa. Here, God performs two remarkable miracles through Peter: healing Aeneas, who had been paralyzed for eight years, and raising Tabitha (Dorcas) from the dead. These weren't just displays of divine power, but strategic moves in God's unstoppable mission to reach all people with the Gospel.

Notice the progression in Peter's ministry. He's no longer just preaching in Jerusalem's temple courts, but he is also venturing into coastal towns, staying with Simon the tanner—a man considered ceremonially unclean by Jewish standards. This detail isn't accidental. God was preparing Peter's heart for an even greater expansion of ministry that would soon include Gentiles, like Cornelius in Acts 10.

The miracles Peter performed mirror those of Jesus, reminding us that Christ's power continues to work through His disciples. But more importantly, these events reveal how God brings life to the world as He expands our faith. Through death to our prejudices and through good works that demonstrate His love, God stretches our understanding of His mission and our role in it.

Tabitha's story particularly stands out. She was known for being "full of good works and acts of charity." When she died, the widows gathered around Peter, showing him the tunics and garments she had made for them. Her eulogy wasn't about her achievements or status, but about how she had contributed life to others through simple acts of service.

Consider this: if someone were to describe your life today, what would they highlight? Would they speak of your generosity, your willingness to serve, or your impact on those around you? Tabitha's legacy reminds us that good works are the keys that open doors for evangelism and create rooms for discipleship.

This week, ask God to reveal any prejudices or comfort zones that might be limiting your ministry. Are there people you avoid or places you won't go because of personal biases? Pray specifically for someone you know who is battling illness or spiritual death. Follow Peter's example by getting on your knees in prayer, then look for practical ways to contribute life to your community through simple acts of service.

Consider one specific good work you can do this week—perhaps helping a neighbor, making a meal for someone in need, or simply being present with someone who is grieving. Remember, these acts of love often open doors for sharing the Gospel.

Closing Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the example of Peter and Tabitha, who allowed You to work through them to bring life to others. Expand our faith as You expanded Peter's ministry. Help us die to our prejudices and comfort zones, so we can serve wherever You call us. Show us opportunities to contribute life to our community through good works that reflect Your love. Give us courage to pray boldly for healing and salvation, trusting in Your power to work through us. Use us as instruments of Your unstoppable mission to reach all people with the Gospel. In Jesus' name, Amen.
